LOVE CUTS

RETICENTLY SPLENDID: Zoe Tayputs unflashy realism into Love Cuts – where her character, Sissy, suffers from breast cancer – making the hard tale warm.(PHOTO: GOLDEN VILLAGE PICTURES)

LOVE CUTS (PG)

Drama/110 mins

THE poster may look racy with Zoe Tay's naked shoulders on show, but Love Cuts is very serious.

Dead serious in a way that would resonate with local audiences in view of its familiar subject matter.

Tay is Sissy, a 40-something seamstress who works cheerily and unfailingly at her shop in a shopping mall.

Her children teenage son (Fighting Spiders' Edwin Goh) and young daughter (Kidnapper's Regene Lim) are caught in the phase between needing mum and requiring their personal space.

As a bonding practice, they lunch together dutifully in her shop every day.

Dad, though, feels restless.
